APRIL2010

Chairman’s Comments

“We need your entries!”

Our demonstration meeting in March featuring Paul Coker a renowned specialist in ornamental decorative turning was a great success. I was enthralled by the totally different dimension and possibilities specialist lathes can achieve. When we learned the history of these techniques, the phrase  'there is nothing new in turning' demonstrated how ingenious were the artisans of the past! I hope we are able to have a fuller report on Paul's demonstration later in this news letter.

Our next meeting on 11th. April, a ‘Hands On’ Day, will be our extended meeting, starting at 10 am -- 4 pm. Our intention is to have the demonstration of projects and techniques by our regular contributors, together with club lathes available for members to 'have a go'. We also have a 'newish' member setting up to show us his barley twist techniques, so this is a new dimension to the day. Can I again say how encouraging it is to feel the new energy and enthusiasm which is being generated by additional involvement by you all. Long may it continue.

See you on the 11th April.

Regards - Brian.

Daventry & District Spring Woodworking Show

April 17th.— 18th. 2010

The setting up of the stall will take place on Friday afternoon 16th. April. If anyone is able to help with this please contact Tim Davies.

Items for the display table should be brought to the meeting on April 11th. There is a prize for the best display but the number of entries and the number of members in the club is taken into account so please bring as many entries as you can.

In Memoriam

It is with shock and sadness that I have to tell you that Geoff. Hughes passed away on Sunday evening 7th. March. He was a loyal and enthusiastic member of WMWT.

It is my intention to pay my respects at his funeral and represent the Club as well.
