The year 2009 ended on a very successful note with our Christmas Meeting. Malcolm Thorpe's Lace Bobbin talk and demonstration were a great success. Worthy of our thanks and appreciation for the thoroughness and detail that he went into, a very wide and varied subject and I guess we only had a taster of the forms and materials which are used. Materials are a subject which we may find worthy of more interest in the wider range of Turning, 'food for thought'!

For those who were unable to attend, I can tell you that this year’s winner of the Chairman's Challenge Trophy was Tim Davies, a worthy winner and enthusiastic supporter of the competition which has encouraged him to develop techniques which he may not have tried if it had not been for the variety of projects we have chosen, well done Tim.

In recognition of the hard work, energy and enthusiasm Dave Wilcox has injected into the club over recent times, he has been awarded an Honorary Membership of the West Midlands Woodturners. Dave and his family are shortly moving to pastures new, our best wishes go with him. Our thanks Dave!

We also recognised the part that Margaret Ford plays in the success of our meetings, keeping us well supplied with our drinks throughout the year, for which we presented her with a bouquet of flowers, thanks Margaret!

Our next meeting is on 10th. January is our AGM and will be a full day, our AGM Agenda will have some items the Committee want to address and whatever time is needed will be allocated to cover these items. The AGM will be followed by a Demonstration by club stalwart, Graham Lovett.

Can I make our annual plea for members to put themselves forward to contribute to the running of the club, this is best done by joining the Committee, this is not in anyway an onerous task, the more input the better. All positions on the Committee are reviewed at the AGM and, as I have expressed before, I believe the officers’ positions would be best served by being limited to a fixed term to encourage fresh ideas and direction, please have a serious think about taking part.

Let’s hope for a good New Year, see you on 10th. Jan. 2010. Brian.

Regards - Brian.
